Principal Dentist Keith Preston shares his experiences of trialling the CALAJECT injection system.

Having listened to feedback from my patients, the dental injection is probably the part of their treatment that scares them the most and is why trialling the CALAJECT™ before implementing it in practice has been the answer to many problems. As dental professionals we always do as much as we can to keep our patients happy and relaxed and knowing they are going to have a comfortable injection helps to keep anxiety levels down throughout the practice.

The CALAJECT is very easy to use and didn’t even require any real setting-up; it was pretty much ready to start using straight out of the box – a plus for any time-limited clinician wanting to get started immediately. I use the CALAJECT on all my adult patients of all ages using a mixture of infiltration, intraligmental and blocks. From the start I kept note of the type of injection and the anaesthetic used to see if I ever needed to do any top-ups and remarkably this has happened only once.

A real benefit of a motorised injection system is that the anaesthesia is taking effect while the injection is being delivered. It’s this slow, steady and gentle flow of anaesthesia that takes the pain out of injections for the patient and enables you to start treatment straight away as you can be sure that the patient is numb. What’s more, it’s even possible to make some savings with the CALAJECT, as there is no need to buy any special consumables as the system works with standard dental needles and cartridges, meaning no additional material costs.

I admit I was reluctant at the start of this process to switch to computer-assisted analgesia, yet thanks to being able to try the CALAJECT for myself and in my own practice, I am now so positive about the system and its benefits.

I truly believe the CALAJECT will prove to be well worth the investment, and if nothing else my patients really appreciate it. I can now confidently tell my patients that this is a fantastic product, the injection isn’t going to be like previous injections and I know it’s all going to be fine, even if at first they may not be totally convinced. When I’m relaxed, it makes the patient relaxed, and I can do a much better job of treating them with comfortable injections.
